The inhorgenta europe fair for the amber jewellers is not a reason of such strong emotions as the Tucson event, which precedes it, because both the currency and European market are quite stable by contrast with the American ones.
Mostly that is why the atmosphere at the fair is calm and amber companies do not complain about lack of interest concerning their offer. Especially that the German trade press devoted a lot of space to present amber jewellery, even announcing amber trends. A very nice feature supporting the promotion of amber is also an exhibition of the works submitted for the “Contemporary souvenir made of amber” competition, whose results were announced last year during the Midora Days of Watches and Jewellery in Leipzig.
In the middle of the fair it is difficult to assess its results, but even now it can be said that the fair is going to be successful for many amber companies. The main consumer of its products is the German market, although there are also merchants from south and central Europe, who are interested in amber more and more. Inhorgenta also seems to be a good place for the presentation of the amber offer, more to the fact that the German market has been almost completely dominated by Polish and Lithuanian companies. As Georg Lesniak emphasizes the jewellery decorated with amber is appreciated by younger and younger generations, and that is because of the design which changes and is focused on the consumers’ tastes. Additionally, older generations feel a sentimental attachment to amber as many of them associate it with their former motherland or family roots. In his opinion on the market there could be a little more place for new companies but it would have to mean considerable investments. During the previous few years the producers from Lithuania – who offer their products cheaper than the Polish or the Germans – have strengthened their position. But he predicts that – similarly to the situation in Poland – also in Lithuania costs of work will increase very soon and also these companies will be forced to increase the prices of their products.
Generally the moods are positive and most of the exhibitors from the amber sector are satisfied with its course.
