Amber Handicraft

The Goldsmiths and Jewellers Trade Committee of the Pomeranian Chamber of Handicrafts for Small and Medium Enterprises in Gdansk and the Gdansk International Fair Co. for the fourth time encourage to take part in the “Amber Handicraft” competition.

The aim of the competition is to present practical abilities of goldsmiths and amber jewellers specializing in traditional and modern goldsmith’s technologies and young apprentices of these professions, to promote professional education and perfect abilities in goldsmithery and amber jewellery, to encourage to create one’s own designs being an answer for individual customers’ needs and to promote jewellery and goldsmith’s products made with the use of amber.
This year the competition is international for the first time and this is connected with an honourable patronage of the Hanse Parlament. Traditionally this competition is organized in two age categories: the juniors (up to the age of 22), where the subject is “A gift for my mother”, and the seniors for whom two subjects have been prepared: “Man’s jewellery in the retro style” and “Treasures from the Baltic Sea” for articles for daily use. Each participant can submit up to four works in both subject fields. The organizer of the competition, taking care of an adequate prestige of the goldsmith’s or jeweller’s profession, admits to enter into the competition only people performing the profession of goldsmith or amber jeweller with confirmed professional qualifications (e.g. a journeyman’s certificate or a master craftsman’s diploma).
The deadline for works submission is 4th March 2008. The awarded works will be presented during the Amber Trade Fair Amberif 2008 (11th-15th March), and the prizes will be also given during the Fair.
