The final of the World Championship in Amber Collecting

For 9 years on the Baltic Sea beaches there have been organized World Championship in Amber Collecting. The objective of such event is a promotion of amber and sea region.

This year final preliminaries were carried out since 6th July, and the final took place on 13th and 14th July on the beach in Jantar. The competition consisted in collecting in 10 minutes’ time as much amber as possible. The amber was mixed with tiny sticks which are thrown by the sea on the beach and they were equally positioned in each search post. The crowds of the amateurs of amber collecting were contending for 2 days for the title of a world champion and precious prizes. There also took place a round for VIPs – 11 well known people from the world of media, art and amber trade, in which took part among others the organizer of Amberif fairs Ewa Rachon, the manager of International Amber Association office Alicja Wisniewska and a jewellery designer Dorota Kos. The Championships were accompanied by concerts, a local fair and preliminaries for amber miss elections. Traditionally there also took place a popular scientific conference concerning tourism and amber and its subject was: “The strategy for the creation of the concept of a tourist development in Stegna commune based on amber.”
The Championship organizer is a Commune Office in Stegne and the co-organizers are among others: the city of Gdynia, MOSiR of Gdansk, Wrota Pomorza, portal www.mierzeja.pl and International Amber Association. The official championship web page: www.mistrzostwa.stegna.ug.gov.pl.
