The Mayor of Gdansk, Pawel Adamowicz, has put an amber necklace for auction, and the Gdansk Tourist Organization has done the same with stays in three prestigious Pomeranian hotels. This is a city’s promotion on the forum of ICCA, one of the biggest tourist organizations in the world.
The Internet auction is going to be finalized on 4th November at a congress of the International Congress & Convention Association in Canada. Putting attractive objects and services for auction is a good form of promotion on the forum of this international organization, e.g. the city of Calgary from Canada has put cowboy boots and a hat, Brazilian Sao Paulo and Scottish Glasgow paintings with the cities’ images, and Taiwan handmade cups. Gdansk takes part in this year’s auction as the only member from Poland. The Mayor Pawel Adamowicz handed over an amber necklace. “We chose this product because we want the Free City to be associated in the world with amber” – says Robert Pytlos, the Mayor’s of Gdansk plenipotentiary for amber.
The beads were made specially for this auction by Wikwol, an amber workshop from Gdansk. They are made from the most precious Baltic amber. The starting price of the necklace handed over by the Mayor of Gdansk amounts to 50 euros, and its worth has been estimated as 500 euros. The auction is not open, only the people taking actions in ICCA can take part in it. “The auction is of a charitable character and the objects put for it are usually bid above their worth. The money from the auction comes to the fund supporting young entrepreneurs” – informs Anna Gorska, the president of the Gdansk Tourist Organization.
ICCA is the international tourist organization gathering hundreds of private companies, institutions and self-government bodies from 80 countries of the world. This organization annually organizes its congress and fair, the most important events in a tourist trade. Gdansk entered it one year ago. In ICCA there are also 10 other Polish companies and institutions, among others the self-government body from Wroclaw, the Palace of Culture and Science and the chain of Gromada hotels.
