The Ending of Amber Workshops

In July this year in a goldsmith’s shop of Wilhelm Tasso Mattar in a town Artà at Mallorca took place amber workshops. Four people took part in them: two amateurs and two professionals. The workshops were conducted by Wilhelm Tasso Mattar and Philip Sajet.

The workshops started with a sea expedition and a „treasures” seeking. The jewellery was going to be made out of them combined with amber or pieces of raw amber. The ideas were diverse: to string them on a steel cord, to attach them to a ring or make a necklace and a brooch. The participants also practiced various methods of securing amber in settings.
Working with amber aroused an urge for using also other organic materials: mother-of-pearl, wood and black corals. It led to a creation of: “Queen of Fish” – a brooch made of mother-of-pearl and gold, a necklace made of wood closed in silver frames and two rings made of wood decorated with amber.
At the end all the participants were given diplomas. The next workshops were planned for the following summer.
