Attracting Power of Amber

II European Amber Festival in Wielun consolidated its status as an important international amber event. In Wielun and Konopnica a dozen or so thousand of people took part in the celebrations!

The aim of the European Amber Festival is not only to emphasize the role of Wielun on the ancient amber route but mostly it has become a major task of a promotion of historical culture heritage of Ziemia Wielunska [Land of Wielun] and highlighting its tourist values. In accordance with the name the organizers placed particular emphasis on the attractions strictly connected with amber: “In the circle of amber” fair with the stands offering amber decorations, an exhibition of works by Mariusz Gliwinski “Colourful world of amber in jewellery”, an international colloquium devoted to archeology “On amber routes”, a very popular workshop with amber conducted by dr. Elzbieta Sontag, as well as numerous games not only for children. The real hit were the spectacular marches of merchants and wayfarers of an amber route, groups of legionnaires and gladiators and knights wearing clothes from the period. In this colourful procession apart from professionally organized groups took part also inhabitants of Wielun.

Polish-Italian Festival of Amber

It was a very good idea to invite Italians to take part in this event, who not only added atmosphere but also provided a feast for the senses of sight and taste. The guests from Fano wore the clothes of legionnaires and gladiators as well as… cooks. Huge amounts of wine, grilled sardines and spaghetti were enough for many hours of savouring.
The organizer announces that each year he will invite the represantatives of a different country from the amber route to take part in the festival. Because, as Janusz Antczak emphasizes, only cooperation provides a guarantee of success.
