During Ambermart fair in Gdansk (28-30.08) there will be a premiere of a picture album about amber entitled “Top Amber” and devoted to an interesting design of amber jewellery within the space of the last few years.
The picture album was published by the International Amber Association edited by dr. hab. Slawomir Fijalkowski, a famous jewellery designer, a lecturer at the Jewellery Designing Lab at Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk and a curator of the Amberif Design Award competition. The aim is to grasp and record important and precious occurrences in amber jewellery designing.
In a preface the author emphasizes enormous contribution of Gdansk Internation Fair Co., an organizer of International Fair of Amber, Jewellery and Gemstones AMBERIF and I nternational Amber Fair AMBERMART in creating a positive image of amber on a world scale. The competitions organized by it have become the fundamental elements of this promotion: International Contest for the Design of Jewellery with Amber Amberif Design Award and Jewellery Contest Mercurius Gedanensis. Another MTG’s initiative is also of big importance: the Gala of Fashion and Amber AMBERIF which consists of fashion and jewellery shows – thanks to it amber becomes a rightful citizen of the world of fashion. All this results in the fact that gradually amber ceases functioning in a collective consciousness as a souvenir from the Baltic coast.
It can be also expected that this picture album, presenting the most important design achievements within the space of the last few years will become a subsequent milestone in a change of the image of amber. It was divided into three thematic chapters. The first one is devoted to the Amberif Design Award (Elektronos) and includes designs entered for the contest in the years 1999-2008. The next chapter presents a representative jewellery offered by companies, workshops and artists with a huge participation of the works awarded in the Mercurius Gedanensis where the best designs at Amberif fair are chosen. This chapter is supplemented by selected works with amber by famous Polish and foreign artists. The last chapter was devoted to amber fashion and illustrated with photos from fashion and jewellery shows presented at the Gala of Fashion and Amber.
The picture album “Top Amber” has 156 pages and costs 55 zloty. During Ambermart fair it will be available at the stand of the International Amber Association, after the fair in the office of IAA. 2008-08-10 |
