Ambermart 2008

Between 28th and 30th August (Thursday – Saturday) at the Gdansk International Fair will be held a 9th edition of the International Amber Fair Ambermart. Approximately 140 exhibitors from Poland and abroad will take part in the event. They will be mostly producers and designers of amber jewellery and golden and silver jewellery.

This year the fair will be open for the public during 3 days. Such decision was taken at the meeting of the Council of Consultants of Amberif as a result of a total closure of Amberif for the public (we wrote about it: 4 days of the Amberif fair).

The organizer – Gdansk International Fair – has prepared an interesting program of the event. Surely there will be regular items such as: The Amber Laboratory, the Museum of Amber Inclusions, The Designers’ Gallery, the Art Gallery with paintings, drawings, graphics and pottery by artists from Trojmiasto and a competition for the audience for the prettiest set of jewellery with amber. During Ambermart there will be a premiere of a book published by the International Amber Association Top Amber edited by dr. hab. Slawomir Fijalkowski. This richly illustrated album will constitute a first attempt to summarize a development of amber design in the previous years. It includes, among other things, photos of the works awarded in Amberif Design Award (Elektronos) and Mercurius Gedanensis, photos from fashion shows organized at the Gala of Fashion and Amber which accompanies Amberif, and the latest trends in designing of the companies and designers working with amber.

The fair will be accompanied by two exhibitions. The first one is called “Amber Seekers” and consists of reconstructed historical and contemporary clothes of seekers together with a photo exposition devoted to amber seeking by Eryk Popkiewicz and the paintings inspired by Amber Coast by Paulina Binek, a famous jewellery designer. In the evening of the first day of the fair in the Museum of Amber there will take place a finissage of this exhibition, and atmospheric, medieval walls of the courtyard of the Museum of Amber will become a setting for a fashion show prepared by Paulina Binek and Joanna Mierzejewska.
In the evening on the second day of the fair in Krzywy Domek in Sopot there will be held a vernissage of art photographs by Barbara Gronus-Dutko called “On the Planet Amber”. A musical setting will be provided by Iwona Jedruch. After the exhibition buyers and exhibitors once again will integrate in Sopot in the Sfinks club.

The fair is held under an honourable patronage of: the Ministry of Economy, International Amber Association, Polish Amber Chamber and Pomeranian Chamber of Handicrafts for Small and Medium Enterprises. The Portal amber.com.pl is a press patron of Ambermart.
