On 12th March the jury in the Mercurius Gedanensis Jewellery Competition awarded Jaroslaw Westermark with Grand Prix for a facial ornament.

On 12
th March 2008 during a sitting in Gdansk the Jury assessed 47 works submitted by 28 participants of the Mercurius Gedanensis competition. The Jury was in the following composition: prof. Andrzej Szadkowski (a Chairman of the Jury), Veerle Van Esbroeck, Jacek Zieta, prof. Anna Bem Borucka and Bogdan Mirowski and awarded the following prizes and honourable mentions:
DESIGN CATEGORY
Grand Prix for Gracja company for the work by Jaroslaw Westermark “The Sapphire Look facial ornament” made of silver, gold and natural sapphire.
A delicate facial ornament inspired by a form of eyeglasses with a surprising aesthetic influence. A modern form with a touch of nostalgia in a teardrop. The Jury hopes that the design will meet with the approval of the jewellery community. An innovation and a flexibility of a form.
Honourable mentions:
- A&A from Lodz for “The Miser’s Necklace” by Franciszek Starowieyski for the work made of gilded silver, a steel wire and a hemp rope. The magic of gold in a new expression.
- Janusz Wosik Art Studio from Gdansk for “The Claw” necklace made of gilded silver and amber, evoking the golden age of history.
WORKMANSHIP EXCELLENCE CATEGORY
Gold Medal for Marek Mikicki Design from Gdynia for “The Glint in the Eye” pendant made of white gold and amber. A two-piece form with mobile amber. Excellence and harmony of proportions, masterly workmanship.
Honourable mentions:
- A&A from Lodz for “The Opera” bracelet and earrings made of gold and diamonds by Anna Majsterek. Precisely crafted bracelet with gemstones having and old school jewellery design. A form awaiting the mysterious lights of the opera.
- Radoslaw Szwed from Warsaw for a ring made of gold, aquamarine and diamonds. A new look on the setting of a gemstone while keeping simplicity and proportions.
TECHNICAL INNOVATION CATEGORY
Gold medal for Jacek Byczewski for a necklace made of stainless steel and gold. A simplicity of structure and the use of a decorative element as a fastening with a power of expression.
Honourable mentions:
- Art 7 Wojciech Kalandyk company from Gdansk for „The Shark” jewellery set by Maciej Rozenberg. An interesting combination of amber with metal and a unique method of amber cut.
- Art 7 Wojciech Kalandyk company from Gdansk for “Spring with Amber” jewellery set by Tomasz Kargula for a new combination of materials.
