Amber History

From time immemorial people believed in the magic power of amber and used it to make amulets, figurines and decorations. Amber was known to the Ancient Greeks and Romans, who valued its decorative qualities very highly. Gdańsk played a key role in the processing of amber: the period from the 16th to the 18th century is called the Golden Age of Amber Art. Its history is continuously in the making: in the manufacturing factories and workshops, and in artists’ studios.
