The Mercurius Gedanensis Jewellery Competition

The Mercurius Gedanensis Jewellery Competition for the Exhibitors at the Amberif International Fair of Amber, Jewellery and Gemstones has been held since 1995. It is organised by the Gdańsk International Fair Co. / MTG SA. Its goal is to distinguish jewellery designs which reflect contemporary trends in fashion, show impeccable jewellery technique and are interesting as the export offer of the Polish jewellery and amber industry. At present, the Competition is held in three categories:

- Design - for the most interesting jewellery design intended for production, made of diverse jewellery materials combined with amber, and reflecting contemporary trends. Artistic criteria, technical innovation and jewellery mastery are the basis for the assessment;

- Technical Innovation - the subject of the competition is jewellery made of gold or gold in combination with other precious metals or in combination with gemstones using goldsmith and jewellery techniques, in which innovative technical solutions have been used;

- Jewellery Mastery - jewellery or decorative items made of diverse jewellery materials using unlimited goldsmith techniques, to be assessed from the point of view of mastery of workmanship and the composition of the jewellery materials used;

Renowned specialists in goldsmith handicraft, design, gemmology and international trade are invited to the Jury. The Statuette of the Minister of the Economy (Grand Prix) is awarded in the Design category, while Gold Medals are awarded in the remaining two categories.
