Jacek Ostrowski: Inhorgenta europe 2010 has exceeded my expectations

Written by  Jacek Ostrowski

In my opinion, Inhorgenta europe 2010 was better than last year, though I was happy with the last year's edition too. Perhaps, my expectations were somehow adjusted to the current situation, still marked with the financial crisis – and from this perspective, the event has definitely exceeded my expectations. I treat the trade fair events as a kind of long-term investment, therefore I don't expect too much, too soon. It is also a chance to check clients' reaction to the new patterns, and I could see that they liked them indeed. The picture of one of my “spatial” rings was presented at one of the seminars devoted to new jewellery trends for spring and summer – it looks that my ideas fit perfectly into fashion.

I also managed to establish some promising, new contacts and I hope they will prove to be rewarding in the near future. My stall was visited, as usual, by the clients fromGermany, who this time were joined by new clients from other countries, such as Croatia, Slovenia, and Bulgaria.

Changes can be observed not only in the clients' makeup, but also in their area of interest: the majority of the orders seems to be shifting from amber jewellery to crystal jewellery – this year the proportion was already 50:50. Although some markets, such as Austria or the USA remain loyal to the gemstone, plus some German clients also ordered amber products exclusively. It is noticeable that the sales of amber products have fallen significantly not only in Germany, but also in England and Poland. Generally, the clients ordered less in this particualr sector, and their purchases were very well planned and thought through.

I don't know where to look for the reasons of the changes mentioned above, but I think that it is not the price of the products, but more likely, the clients feel amber has become passé. I am positive, however, that after a period of stagnation, everything will be fine again.
