Souvenirs from Amber Museum

In 2013 he was accused of tax evasion in Russia. As a wanted notice was issued for him, he found shelter in Poland. Though he does not know how this story is going to end, he has decided to try to continue running his amber business here.

Tomasz Mikołajczyk, the owner of the amber.com.pl portal, the Amber Museum in Cracow and the Boruni Gallery estimates that modified amber constitutes 95 per cent of the market. Therefore he has written an open letter to the main shareholders controlling the International Gdańsk Fair Plc, in which he demands that solutions are implemented at the Amberif trade fair, which would ensure a higher security of purchase. Why, in his opinion, is it the Amberif that has the chance to rescue the amber market in Poland?

Amber in the collections of Polish museums

The Amber Department of the PAS Museum of the Earth is currently running its third resource query on “Amber in Polish Museums”. Recent findings have shown that amber is kept in at least 140 Polish museums. This overview only mentions selected Museum collections.

The exhibition Amber and Its Imitations will be held at the Earth Museum by the Polish Academy of Sciences until May 2014. It is meant to make us more aware of amber imitations and fakes, which are more and more common on the market.

The Amber Museum in Cracow is Already Open

"I wanted to create a place in Cracow which would present amber in an attractive, but also multidimensional way. So far, our activities have focused on presenting the aesthetic values of contemporary amber products. At the museum, though, we have combined amber products with educational values" - explains Tomasz Mikołajczyk, the initiator.
